Victoria Derby

The AAMI Victoria Derby is one of the most prestigious Australian Thoroughbred Group 1 racing events. The Victoria Derby day is held each year on the Saturday prior to the Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse and it kicks starts the Melbourne Cup Carnival, which is the biggest week in Australian racing.

The Victoria Derby was first run in 1855 and is raced over a distance of 2500 metres. The Derby is an event for 3 year old horses under set weight conditions and has a total prize pool of A$1,500,000 and a $10,000 trophy.

Derby Day is the only race meet in Australia where each race held is of group Status, with four being Group One events. The major races on the card for the day are the Mackinnon Stakes, Coolmore Stud Stakes, the Myer Classic and of course the feature race being the AAMI Victoria Derby.
