2015 Melbourne Cup Review and Free Bets

In 2005 Maybe Diva made Melbourne Cup history by becoming the first horse to win three times in consecutive years from 2003 to 2005. Glen Boss was the winning rider on all three occasions. Trainer, Bart Cummings, has trained the most winners of the cup winning a total of 12 to date and also training the runners up in five of those wins. Run over 3200 metres the Melbourne Cup is a handicapped race.

The better a horse is the more weight it carries with Carbine holding the record for a winner of 66kgs way back in the 1890 cup. The greatest weight of 68kgs was carried by Phar Lap in 1931 but the champion could not overcome this penalty and the race was won by White Nose. Fiorente and Red Cadeaux were placed first and second in the 2013 cup, with Mount Athos third. Out of the three place getters from last year only Red Cadeaux has nominated again for this year’s event.

Described as the race that stops a nation the Melbourne Cup has people from around the country participating in some form or other from office sweeps to having a fling on their horse of choice either through the bookmakers or the TAB as they try their luck.
